26 June

Monday 26th. Wrote a letter to Mr Baber & sent it up by favor

of Dr. Bliss to Harding, to put in ^the twopenny post. In library

all day, but so hot, that I could scarcely write. In the

evening, I drank tea in Mr Scard’s Rooms ^of Magd Hall. He succeeded Mr

C. Walters in the School at ^Bishops Waltham, & we talked over all

my old school fellows & acquaintances. Old Jack Fay – the

last of the “Black Gang” ^[Poachers] died about six months ago. Many

others have quitted this world. Others have been made wealthy.

The Eldest of the Bretts, whom I recollect to have met as a

Midn. at Portsmo. is come into the possession of 5,000£ Per Annm.

His sister Fanny is married. His father is dead; & his

mother now resides at Fareham.
